Carpet Fleas

Anatomically speaking, a flea is a general term used to describe a small wingless insect. Fleas are parasites that live externally, they feed on the blood off mammals and birds. Fleas commonly attack a wide range of warm-blooded including cats, dogs, chicken, rats, and humans. Some may informally refer to them as pest because they cause nuisance and irritation to their host. Once bitten, you body reacts and cause a slight burning and itching sensation which will typically result in scratching the area bitten. But sometimes, it is not mainly the bite of the parasite that causes the irritation; because some people have allergic reactions to fleas or mainly flea saliva that will eventually lead to skin rashes.

Fleas are obviously small, swift, and usually dark in color. They have a tube-like mouth tailored to their feeding habits. Their bodies are compressed and flat on both sides allowing them to move effortlessly on hairs. Their exterior body is made up of some sort of hard covering that protect them from scratching. Flea bites is a small spot or spots with one puncture in the middle. It is swollen and raised due to scratching. In some cases these bites can remain inflamed and itchy for weeks and in very severe cases can even cause anemia.

A lot of homes today are carpeted at the same time almost all of them own pets. Fleas mainly stay on the host body but due to pets scratching and pets sleeping and running around the floor, these fleas usually fall off and stay on the carpet. Fleas in the carpet can be very annoying and could even post a danger to children’s health. Getting rid of fleas in the carpet might just be an extra task but it sure is can be done. Carpets have hair like texture that’s why carpet fleas sometimes confuse them as host. They won’t be able to suck on blood in the carpet that’s why they search for a different host- us humans!

We both cherish our pets as well as our carpets, and neither one can go. That’s why you need to take care of both to ensure healthy and hygienic living. It is not enough that you focus on eliminating these carpet fleas because they only come from the animals. So it is also a good practice to keep both your pet and your carpet clean. Fortunately for us today, there are a lot of products available to get rid of fleas in the carpet.

A lot of insecticides are available that will kill fleas in the carpet. Just remember to read the labels carefully and see what suits your preference. When you already have chosen one, there are several things that you may want to consider before the application and treatment. Be sure that all the animals, especially the children, and all the other people are out of the house (except the one that it going to be performing the treatment). Be sure to target the places frequented by the pets like under the beds and tables. Once the application is done; everyone should stay outside for several hours or until the formula is all dried out. You can also open all windows and doors to help speed up the drying.

It is not enough that we keep the house and carpets disinfected because we all know for a fact that carpet fleas come from our pets, so once you’re done with the insecticide application, you can now proceed to the pet treatment. Bathe the pet using anti-flea soap and apply anti-flea powder afterwards. Keep doing this regularly to maintain a clean and safe home for both you and your companion animal.
